Consistent hand pressure with proper sanding tools — rather than bare-hand techniques — is fundamental to professional-quality surface preparation. The firm backing face transfers pressure evenly across the full abrasive contact area, preventing the inconsistent scratch patterns and high-low surface variations that bare-hand sanding produces and that reveal themselves as waviness after paint application. Use guide coat with every blocking pass to visually confirm surface levelness before moving to the next sanding stage.
